If you’re skiing the Big 3, you’ll be spoiled for choice in Banff. The Bear’s Den Pub serves craft beers while Wild Bill’s is a lively saloon.

As for dining The Maple Leaf Grille on Banff Avenue serves beef, bison and elk, while the Creekside Bar and Grill and The Chimney Corner are good choices on the mountain.

Ski Sun Peaks

Sun Peaks is Canada's biggest ski resort after Whistler, but the British Columbia town feels small and friendly. The slopes are so quiet and have great terrain if you're an intermediate skier.

Plus, it's a lot less chilly than the Canadian Rockies resorts but you still get the fine, fluffy powder!

Ski Jasper

Marmot Basin is one of the most picturesque ski resorts located in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. It is located in the namesake town of stunning Jasper National Park in Alberta and can be accessed from both Calgary and Edmonton international airports.

There's a reason why USA Today ranked Jasper as the Top Ski Town of 2018 thanks to its quiet, friendly centre. Jasper is truly the perfect destination for Canadian ski holidays, as well as lots of other fun winter activities.

Ski Tremblant

Another fantastic East Coast ski resort is Tremblant in Québec. The resort boasts a superb location in the Laurentian mountains with views towards the St. Lawrence River. There is fantastic skiing and snowboarding to be found among the 4 slopes and 96 trails and a gorgeous pedestrian village for shopping and dining. More than this, Mont Tremblant offers an interesting blend of French and Canadian food and culture.

Best for après

At the other end of the spectrum, Canada has some great resorts if you fancy lively nightlife. Whistler’s après options almost rival its number of ski runs. You'll find plenty to keep you entertained in the village, from dancing on the bar at the legendary Garibaldi Lift Co. to sipping classy cocktails at the Fairmont’s Mallard Lounge. Beyond the booze, Whistler's dining options are many, from casual burgers to high-end seafood.

Best for beginners

Vying for second place as Canada’s biggest resort, Sun Peaks and Lake Louise both offer plenty of easier slopes, with the latter claiming a green run from even the very top. 10% of the runs in Sun Peaks are beginner level, while that figure rises to 25% in Lake Louise. Lake Louise also has the benefit of being in the SkiBig3, which gives you access to three resorts on one lift pass - a good option for mixed ability groups.

Best for intermediates

Jasper is one of the smaller resorts we offer holidays to, but it still has great snow and more than enough varied terrain to keep progressing skiers and boarders entertained. Of its 91 runs, 30% are classed as intermediate and it has also opened a new terrain park, Tres Hombres. As an added bonus, Jasper is one of the most scenic resorts.

Best for experts

All the Alberta and British Columbia resorts can lay claim to some gnarly terrain, but the steep and deep powder of Fernie and the 'in-bounds' off-piste ski areas at Panorama probably win out. Revelstoke and Kicking Horse also come highly rated for advanced skiers. If you're travelling with a group that have mixed abilities, the sheer size of Whistler guarantees there will be plenty of runs at every level.

We have skis, snowboards, poles, and boots all available to get you completely kitted out for your holiday. All you'll need to source separately are your clothes. We have three levels of equipment to suit all ability levels, from reliable entry-level gear for beginners, to this season's latest skis for experts.

Ski school

If you've never skied before or are a little rusty, lessons are a great way to get your legs in. It's universally agreed that Canadian instructors are super-friendly and helpful, so your confidence will quickly soar no matter your experience level. Choose from ski or snowboard lessons for children or adults, whether it's just for half a day or several days of tuition.

Dog sledding

There is nothing like the silent swish of a sled through alpine forests, the crisp air misted by the breath of half a dozen eager huskies. Choose your dog sledding experience, from an hour to a full day. Curl up in the rug-lined sled and watch the mountain peaks slide by, or take control and mush your own dog team. With breaks for hot chocolate and cuddles with the pups at the end, it'll be an unforgettable adventure.

Heli tours

Heli-skiing is an option in Canada. But, for the less experienced or for those who simply appreciate scenic splendour, a helicopter flightseeing tour is one of the most brilliant activities you can enjoy in Canada's mountains. The thrill as the blades whir faster and you first lift off the ground is like no other. From up high, the views of Canada's innumerable peaks, lakes and glaciers are just mind-blowing.

Aurora watching

Much of Canada is close to Arctic Circle and under the auroral oval, making it one of the best countries in the world to see the Northern Lights. It's possible to spot the lights in the Rockies, so if you're skiing in Banff or Jasper National Parks, make time for the aurora. Join a tour or drive yourself somewhere without light pollution between 11pm and 3am. Apps can give you a notification when activity is likely.

Spa Downtime

Wind down after a long day skiing or snowboarding with some incredibly indulgent world-class spas. Scandinave Spa, found in Whistler and Tremblant, is a favourite for its scenic outdoor hot pools. Many hotels have incredible pools, hot tubs and steam rooms such as the Four Seasons, Pan Pacific and Westin.
