Zilker Relays was founded in 2002 by Paul Perrone. He gathered the help of a few friends with a desire to create something unique for the Austin running community. "One summer evening I was running in Zilker Park while the sun was setting: I stopped and thought, what a great venue for a relay, party and concert," states Perrone. "I believe we have set the bar very high in Austin for what a participant receives for their entry fee." In addition to a great run, participants are treated to live music during the relay and beer garden after the event. We like to reinforce the "fun factor" that running can bring into a person's life. Running doesn't always have to be a solo effort and racing doesn't always have to be focused on individual achievement."
